Tunis Events Calendar: Week of July 15 – 21, 2019

Meshkal has compiled a calendar of political, cultural, and economic events taking place in Tunis this week. No Tunis events included appear to require an entry fee.

Monday, July 15:

8:00 – USAID’s TADAEEM project is hosting a half-day workshop on Public Private Partnerships at a municipal level. The workshop is scheduled to host an address by Minister of Local Affairs and the Environment Mokhtar Hammami. Location: Mouradi Hotel, Gammarth

8:30 – Parliament’s Committee on Finance, Planning, and Development is holding a hearing with the minister of finance and the governor of the central bank to discuss draft law No99/2017 on exchange violations and with the minister of finance alone to discuss the following: draft law No32/2019 modifying the tax rights and procedures code; draft law No52/2019 approving an agreement between the US and Tunisia improving the respect for international tax obligations; draft law No55/2019 approving a loan signed with the African Development Bank to finance a project “modernizing” the finance sector; draft law No29/2019 approving an agreement signed in February 2019 with the French Development Agency financing the “modernization” of healthcare delivery in Sidi Bouzid; draft law No56/2019 approving a financial cooperation agreement signed in 2016 with Germany; draft law No58/2019 approving an agreement signed with the Italy in March 2019 supporting the private sector and financial integration in agriculture, social solidarity economy and credit facilitation between the Tunisian Central Bank and Italian institutions, according to Marsad Majles, the parliamentary watchdog project of NGO Al Bawsala.

9:00 – Parliament is holding a full (plenary) session to pose questions to the interim health minister according to Marsad Majles, the parliamentary watchdog project of NGO Al Bawsala.

Tuesday, July 16:

21:00 – Partial lunar eclipse watching, hosted by the National Institute of Meteorology. Location: Headquarters of the National Institute of Meteorology, Mohamed Ali Akid Street in Cité Olympique.

Wednesday, July 17:

9:00 – Conference on waste management in the context of decentralization, hosted by Megara Challenges with support from Heinrich Boll Stiftung and the GIZ (the German Corporation for International Cooperation). Location: Mouradi Hotel, Gammarth

17:30 – Book discussion with author Sophie Bessis on her recently published “A History of Tunisia: From Carthage to the Present Day,” hosted by the Tunisia Office of the Center for Middle East Studies (CMES) at Harvard Univeristy. Location: Third Floor, Immeuble Slim, Rue de l’Euro, Les Jardins du Lac II Tunis

Thursday, July 18:

9:00 – Tunisia’s state Agency for the Promotion of Industry and Innovation (APII) is hosting with USAID the 10th iteration of its so-called “National Days of Personal Initiative and Entrepreneurship” on the topic of “A program to support the competitive power of small and medium enterprises.” Location: Happy Land event space, Ben Arous.
