Meshkal has compiled a calendar of political, cultural, and economic events taking place in Tunis this week. No events included appear to require an entry fee except for the screening of “Thirsty Tunisians” on Friday night (3DT).
Monday, July 1:
8:00 – Beginning of the shortened summer work schedule for public employees, according to an announcement by the Prime Ministry on its official Facebook page. Officially, the hours are scheduled to be as follows: 8:00 to 14:30 Monday-Thursday; 8:00 to 13:30 on Friday.
Tuesday, July 2:
9:00 – Launch of the “International Forum on Decent Work for Migrants” hosted by the UGTT. For more details, see the UGTT’s official Facebook event page here. Location: Culture City
17:00 – The second edition of the Manarat Mediterranean Film Festival launches this week, with films being screened at several beach locations across Tunisia and three cinemas across Tunis starting at 17:00 from Tuesday to Friday. For a full schedule of events, click here.

14:30 – Round table discussion hosted by the Manarat film festival on the topic of the “Circulation and Distribution of Arab Films in the World.” Location: Dar El Marsa Hotel
17:30 to 19:30 – The Observatory for Food Sovereignty and the Environment is hosting a conference entitled “At the Origins of the Political Crisis in Algeria.” Omar Bessaoud, the scientific director and a lecturer and researcher at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institut of Montpellier, will be the main speaker. Location: Hotel Majestic.
Thursday, July 4:
9:00? – The Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Planning and Development is holding a meeting on an unspecified topic at an unspecified time, according to the official parliamentary website.
Friday, July 5:
21:30 – Manarat is screening the documentary “Thirsty Tunisians” with an entry fee of 3dt. The director, Ridha Tlili, and the film’s team will be present. Location: Culture City, Ciné 350
