Tunis Events Calendar: Week of August 26 – September 1, 2019

Every Monday, Meshkal compiles a calendar of political, cultural, and economic events taking place in Tunis for the week. No events included appear to require an entry fee. Some events are announced during the week and so may not be included at the time the events calendar is published.

Monday, August 26:

10:30 – Presidential candidate Abdelfattah Mourou is holding a meeting and taking questions in La Marsa with those registered before Sunday, August 25 by 18:00. Exact location not publicly advertised.

18:00 – Tunisian House of Poetry is hosting a festival with readings and music. Location: House of Poetry ( La Maison de la Poésie), 29 Bis, Tribunal Street, Hafsia (Medina), Tunis.

Tuesday, August 27:

18:00 – As part of the festival hosted by the Tunisian House of Poetry, the female writers group Our Lady of Words is hosting a reading competition. For more information, check the Facebook event link.

Wednesday, August 28:

10:00 – The NGO Aswat Nissa is holding a book donation drive, requesting books relating to feminism, gender, masculinity and public policy. Those wishing to donate are requested to contact Aswat Nissa via this link.

18:00 – A Medina Book Club is hosting anyone who would like to present a book at the House of Poetry in Hafsia. More information available here. Location: House of Poetry ( La Maison de la Poésie), 29 Bis, Tribunal Street, Hafsia (Medina), Tunis.

Thursday, August 29:

18:00 – Tunisian House of Poetry is hosting a reading and musical performance. Registration requested in advance at this link. Location: House of Poetry ( La Maison de la Poésie), 29 Bis, Tribunal Street, Hafsia (Medina), Tunis.

18:30 A second iteration of a “tutorial for citizens” on the topic of “how to evaluate a candidate” is being held. The Facebook event is in French and does not indicate what language the event will be held in. A nearly identical event had been scheduled in the same location and hosted by the same group on Friday July 26, led by Sami Bahri, whose biography describes him as the advisor to the “president of the National Constituent Assembly [the temporary legislative authority that governed Tunisia from 2011 to 2014]” and secretary general of the dimo:qratiyoun association.
