Every Monday, Meshkal compiles a calendar of political, cultural, and economic events taking place in Tunis for the week. No events included appear to require an entry fee. Some events are announced during the week and so may not be included at the time the events calendar is published.

Monday, January 13:

10:00 – Parliament’s Defense and Security Committee is holding a hearing with the president’s chief of staff on the situation in Libya as well as its political and diplomatic implications for Tunisia, according to Marsad Majles, the parliamentary watchdog project of NGO Al Bawsala.

Tuesday, January 14:

00:01 – Ninth anniversary of the 2010-2011 uprising, marking the day former president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali fled to Saudi Arabia. The day is set to be marked by different political groups, parties, and unions having rallies and/or setting up stands and booths on Avenue Habib Bourguiba, and some political groups have called for gathering on the avenue for political rallies on the avenue this year as well.

15:00 – Performances and presentations by the “Youth of Kram” hosted by Mobdiun. Location: Mad’art Carthage

15:00 – Film screening of “Human Vol. 3” hosted by Terre d’Asile Tunisie. Registration requested in advance. Location: 17 rue Khaled Ibn El Oualid – Mutuelleville, Tunis.

19:30 – Film screening of “Leviathan,” presented by professor Richard Pena, hosted by Columbia Global Centers Tunis and CinéMadart. Location: CinéMadart

Wednesday, January 15:

9:00 – Plenary (full) session of parliament is scheduled to be held to discuss numerous bills including on patient rights, the financing by the French development agency on an “E-health” project, a financial cooperation agreement between Tunisia and Germany, a financial cooperation agreement between Tunisia and Italy, an agreement between Tunisia and the Arab Fund on the funding of two dams, and a loan taken by the Tunisian central bank from a group of foreign companies, according to Marsad Majles, the parliamentary watchdog project of NGO Al Bawsala.

9:30 – Seminar on the topic of “The Challenges and Achievements of the Revolution on its Ninth Anniversary,” hosted by the Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy (CSID). Location: Mechtel Hotel, Tunis.

Thursday, January 16:

8:30 – A breakfast is being organized by the Tunisia-Spain Affairs Council of UTICA and the Tunisian-Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Indsutry on the topic of “The new Spanish Line of Credit.” Location: UTICA headquarters.

9:00 – Plenary (full) session of parliament is scheduled to be held to discuss numerous bills including the ones on the agenda for Wednesday that may be outstanding (see above), according to Marsad Majles, the parliamentary watchdog project of NGO Al Bawsala.

17:30 – Harvard’s Center for Middle East Studies (CMES) Tunisia Office is hosting a lecture by art historian Ridha Moumni on the topic of royal portraiture in 19th century Tunisia. Location: Harvard CMES Tunisia Office, Lac 2.

Saturday, January 18:

9:30 – Corruption watchdog NGO IWatch is hosting its annual “Integrity Mall” anti-corruption fair with a series of panel discussions on corruption in relation to various topics. Location: Culture City.
